Richard “Rick” Dennis Newsome, 66, of Jumping Branch passed away April 23, 2021 at his home following a sudden illness.
Born December 21, 1954 at Fort Carson, CO he was a son of Richard Thomas Newsome of Shady Spring and the late Helen Virginia Leishman Newsome.
Rick was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church where he served as a former trustee and deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday morning superintendent, church bus driver and fill in speaker for church services. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and excelled at playing football and running track. Rick was an explosive technician for several strip mine companies. He enjoyed working on his farm, forging and handcrafting homemade knives and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Besides his mother, Rick is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Beecher Meadows Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 41 years, Mary Newsome at home; one son, Richard Boda Newsome; two daughters, Olivia Denise Rose and husband Jamie and Rebecca Lynn Newsome and boyfriend Derek Dooley; four grandchildren, Eli, Dawson and Easton Rose and Brooks Dooley; one brother, Robert Thomas Newsome and wife Brenda; one sister, Regina Irene Newsome; mother-in-law, Erma Meadows and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Bluestone Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Winkler officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of services on Thursday at the church.
Keith Richmond, Greg Lilly, John Bowling, Darrell Lilly and Faron Young will serve as pallbearers.
