Larry Kleintop

May 20, 2020 — January 26, 2020

On Sunday, January 26, 2020, Larry L. Kleintop, loving father and grandfather, went home to be with God at the age of 70 following a short illness.

Born May 20, 1949 at Palmerton, PA he was a son of the Alp and Mary Margaret Cales Kleintop.

Larry served his country in the United States Army and fought two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a combat infantryman in the 173D Airborne Brigade APO 9620, 4th Battalion 503rd Infantry, Company B.  Larry was a decorated soldier who received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Service Star, a Bronze Star Medal and a Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm for his heroic acts of service in Vietnam. He was an avid reader of both newspapers and books, enjoyed watching television, shooting guns, and spending time with his son and family at their camp in Greenbrier County, West Virginia.  Larry was a kind man and would help those in need.

Thank you to all his Vietnam brothers who fought beside him and those who remained with him returning home to endure a new fight.

Larry was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Grimmett and Ronnie Kleintop. He is survived by two brothers, Dale Kleintop and Billy Kleintop.

Left her to cherish and honor his memory is his son Tim Kleintop and wife Lisa, granddaughter, Lilley Grace, and one grand-dog, Moe of Sanford NC.

HAVE YOU HEARD

Have you heard, of the one-seventy-third, Air-borne-Brigade

Have you heard, of the one-seventy-third, Air-borne-Brigade

How they jumped on the enemy like a flacon from the blue

A more gallant fighting soldier America never knew

Have you heard, of the one-seventy-third, Air-borne-Brigade

They fought fearlessly hand to hand in the Central Highlands

How their blood has stained the sands in the hills of Vietnam

Have you heard, of the one-seventy-third, Air-borne-Brigade

How with their rifles cradled they descend from the Sky

As their ripcord snapped their parachute they screamed their battle cry

Have you heard, of the one-seventy-third, Air-borne-Brigade

How they won a gallant victory on hill eight seven five

How they learned the price of freedom for 280 died

Have you heard, of the one-seventy-third, Air-borne-Brigade

Now you heard, of the one-seventy-third, Air-borne-Brigade

Illegitimi non carborundum

Love and miss you Pops
