Jackie Bennett

Jackie Benson Bennett, 87, of Hinton passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.

Born March 19, 1934 in Summers County he was the son of the late Augustus and Ivous Meadows Bennett. At an early age he starting working as an underground miner, worked many years for R.T. Rogers in maintenance and as a mechanic.  Jackie was a lifelong resident of Summers County where he enjoyed mechanic work, tinkering on cars for neighbors, gardening and sitting on his back porch watching the birds. He was a member of Martha’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Roger Lee Bennett,  two brothers, Lee and Wayne Bennett and sister-in-law, Yonnie Bennett.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 67 years Martha Lee Bennett of Hinton; son, Larry Bennett (Denise); daughter, Karen Legg (Timothy); six grandchildren, Geri Lyn Wheeler, Joni Neely, Justin Bennett, Jacqueline Jarrell, Chris and Curtis Legg; and ten great grandchildren, Hailey, Abby, and Sadie Wheeler, Madison Neely, McKinze, Payton, and Gage Bennett, Grayson, Jackson, and Addison Jarrell.

A private service was held Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Martha’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Edward Dolphin officiating.  Burial followed in Restwood Memorial Gardens.

Larry and Justin Bennett, Timothy Legg, Brad Jarrell, Robbie Neely and Chris Wheeler served as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to Martha’s Chapel United Methodist Church at 14068 State Route 12, Forest Hill, WV 24935.
