Steven Lee Tickle, 68, of True passed away October 17, 2016 at Charleston Area Medical Center General Division.
Born June 14, 1948 at True he was a son of the late Dorsey Tickle and Romie Albert Epperly and stepfather James Epperly.
Steve was of the Baptist faith. He was a 1967 graduate of Hinton High School with a degree in Education and a masters degree in Special Education from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. Steve had a long career as a special education teacher in Summers County. He was a friend and advocate to the many children with developmental disabilities in his classroom. He got his start teaching at Avis School. He also taught at Talcott School, Hinton High School and Summers Middle School.
From a young age, Steve enjoyed being outdoors and farm life with his brother, Floyd and father, James Epperly. Before his health declined, he was an avid deer hunter. He raised beagles for many years to take rabbit hunting. Growing up with horses, he continued to keep Tennessee Walking horses for many years. Steve took pride in raising vegetable gardens and grafting his fruit trees.
He is survived by two daughters, Amy and Sara Tickle, both of Charleston; a brother, Floyd Tickle and wife Bonnie of Nimitz and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Wynn Cemetery at True. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral parlors.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to Beyond Wishes Therapeutic Riding Program at HC 77 Box 26 B, Hinton, WV 25951 or www.beyondwishes.org.
