Raymond Harvey

April 19, 1927 — February 18, 2018

Raymond D. Harvey, 90, of Hinton formerly of Sandyville, WV passed from this life into his glorious life 10:15 A.M. Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a short illness.
Born April 19, 1927 at Hinton he was a son of the late Oral and Daisy Lilly Harvey.
Raymond attended Bluestone Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He was retired from Kaiser Aluminum Chemical Corp. with 24 years of service and was a member of Steelworkers of America Local #5668. Raymond was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and had worked in the shipyards of Norfolk, VA. He helped in the construction of the Bluestone Dam and was also a fireman for C&O Railroad. Raymond was once one of the largest honey bee keepers in WV. He was a humble and hardworking man who loved the outdoors and enjoyed all the wonders of nature including gardening and working with his honey bees. Raymond was an avid hunter, deer and squirrel were his specialty. He was affectionately known as "Honey Bee Harvey" and "Candyman."
Raymond was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Harvey and a sister, Edith Stiffler.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Imogene Smithson Harvey at home; four sons, Daniel Harvey of Sandyville, Timothy D. Harvey and wife Diane of Sandyville, Darrell Harvey of Hinton and Stephen Harvey of Parkersburg; one adopted daughter, Stephanie Kite of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren, Sara Harvey, Nathaniel Harvey, Naomi Harvey, Tiffany Ives, Craig Harvey, Stephen, Stephanie and Sam Harvey; four great grandchildren, Jacob and Mike Demetro and Ethan and Raelynn Walker; one sister Athalene Tilton of FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Butch Honaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral parlors.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Judes Research and the Billy Graham Association. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Day and Staff and the Staff of Summers Nursing for the excellent care provided.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
