Ralph Garland "Shag" Shirey Jr., 66, of 62 Redskin Dr. Hinton went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 20, 2016 following a long illness.
Born March 13, 1949 in Hinton he was the son of the late Ralph Garland Shirey Sr. and Virginia Wiseman Shirey Lilly Meadows.
Shag was a wonderful and gentle husband and a diehard Washington Redskin Fan. He was an Army Veteran of Vietnam and a postal worker in Fairfax, VA having retired in 2001. Shag was a Member of the VFW and the Prince of Peace United Methodist Church in Manassas, VA and had most recently attended the Hinton First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Lake Shirey.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 44 years, Betty Lyles Shirey; one daughter, Sherry Lynn Shirey of Charlotte, NC; one son, Sean Michael Shirey of Hinton and four grandchildren, Logan Patrick, Cheyanne Elizabeth, Joshua Michael and Aubrey Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Melissa White officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Burial Park in Hinton. Friends may call from 6:00 -8:00 P.M. Friday, January 29, 2016 at the funeral parlors.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.
