Phillip E. "Sonny" Meadows

Phillip E. “Sonny” Meadows, 88, of Hinton went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 23, 2025 following a short illness.

Born February 7, 1937 in Hinton, he was a son of the late Bernard Q. and Ethel Kirby Meadows.

Sonny was a C&O Conductor on the Allegheny Mountain who later retired from Amtrack. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Sonny was also a 50 year member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge #62 AF&AM. He enjoyed the beach, camping and spending time with his family. Sonny was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ardella Allen Meadows; second wife, Sara Foster Meadows; one son, Terry Jackson Meadows; one grandson, Shawn Meadows; two brothers, Bernard Meadows Jr. and Billy Joe “Jig” Meadows and one sister, Marie Carol Huffman.

Those left to cherish his memory include his five children, Phillip Meadows and wife Debbie, Kendra Meadows, Marcy Kinder, Dyneal Garten and husband Jeff and Lagaye Basham and husband Scott; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A Graveside service for family and friends will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Valley View Cemetery at Powley’s Creek with Pastor Tim Spencer officiating. A Celebration of Sonny’s life will follow at the Graham House at Lowell from 12:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M.
