Phillip Jasper "P.J." Light, 79, of Marie joined his wife in eternal rest Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at his home following a long illness.
Born January 25, 1937 at Marie he was a son of the late David Cicero Light and Daisy Richardson Light Marsh.
Phillip was a retired school bus driver for the Summers County Board of Education and had worked as a security officer for Summers County Hospital. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He enjoyed ginseng hunting, fishing, farming, sawmilling and loved making people smile. P.J. was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bernice Clowers Light; one grandson, Adam Dale Light and five siblings, Loraine Crutchfield, Ada Ann Maddy and Irene Waldron, Maurice Light and Phyllis Neal.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, David Dale Light and wife Lita of Marie and Phillip Leon Light and wife Carolyn of Shady Spring; four grandchildren, Ryan James Light and fiancé Tamara Bragg of Pipestem, Seth Thomas Light of Shady Spring, Sara Christine Light of Fort Worth, TX and Samuel Jay Light and wife Bethany of Elkview and one great granddaughter, Jasmine Noelle Light. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Fairview Baptist Church at Forest Hill with Pastor Mike McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery at Marie. Friends may call from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral parlors.
Pallbearers will be Steve Light, Billy Brian Mitchell, Jason Persinger, Josh and Zach Maddy and Dennis Garrison III. Honorary Pallbearer will be his lifelong friend, Bill "Mitch" Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to your local Hospice care provider.
Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.
