Nilon Hunter Cales, age 80, of Mc Leansville, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

Nilon was born on May 3rd, 1945, in Hix, West Virginia to his father James Lacy Cales and Mother Euna Alice Richmond. He met his beloved wife, Ann, in the town of Sandstone, West Virginia. They later moved to North Carolina where they would spend the remainder of their lives together.

Nilon worked at Cone (Revolution) textile mill for 17 years and then as a mechanical technician until his retirement. As a young man, he enjoyed hunting and in his later years, became an excellent woodworker. He created beautiful furniture and other pieces that his family will have to cherish and enjoy for years to come. His main joys in life were his granddaughters and great grandchildren, he enjoyed watching them participate in different activities like dance, cheerleading, and ball games.

Nilon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vella “Ann” Hicks Cales, daughter, Teresa Cales Matthews and her Husband, Ron, 2 granddaughters, Heather Nicole Rogers (Tony), Macey Ann Matthews, 4 great grandchildren, Kaia Collins, Chase Collins, Bradun Rogers, Everleigh Rogers, 2 siblings, his sister Mildred Cales Bennett, and his brother James Buford Cales, many beloved nieces and nephews, and his best friend peanut, his yorkie who he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, preceding him in death are his siblings, Earnest “Bud” Cales, Barbara Cales Patterson, and Vernon Dale Cales.

The family would especially like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at both the Wesley Long cancer Center where he received exceptional care at every visit, and the Authoracare Hospice.

A visitation will be held on October 3rd, 2025 from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 1900 Vanstory St, Greensboro, North Carolina, 27403

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 1:00PM at Tempa Baptist Church in Tempa, West Virginia with fellowship to follow in the Chestnut Memorial Fellowship Hall
