Mary Martin

Mary Martha Ratcliffe Martin, 92, of Pipestem went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 15, 2019.  She was a resident of the Rocking Chair Residential Care Home at the time of her passing.

Born October 6, 1927, in Bluefield, VA.  She was the daughter of the late Isaac Vernon and Bertha Fitzpatrick Ratcliffe.  Martha was retired from the A&P Grocery Chain.  She worked at the Hinton location until its closing and then at the Beckley location until her retirement.  She had many hobbies, she was an avid reader, gardener, and lover of nature.  She was a faithful member of Cooks Chapel Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

Preceded in death by her husband Charles W. “Buddy” Martin; a daughter, Linda Carol Harper; four brothers, Alpha, Franklin, Leslie and Thomas Ratcliffe; and her sister, Addie Maddy.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rhonda (Robert “Cotty”) Farley, of Pipestem; son, Charles “Randy Martin” (Sharon) of Beckley; four grandchildren, Mark (Joni) Farley of NC, Angela (Jody) Richmond of Hurricane, Shawn Martin of NC and Tara (J.J.) Lone of NC; six great grandchildren, Jordan (Corey) Joudry, Zach and Zoe Farley, Hunter and Carter Richmond, and Layla Lone.  Also, a special friend and “adopted” son, David Slyvester of Colorado.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating.  Friends may call from 10:00 am until time of services.  A private burial service will be held at a later date.

Nephews and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes are that donations be made to the Rocking Chair Residential Care Home, 2103 Pine Grove Road, Lerona, WV 25971.
