Mary Ellen Richmond

Mary Ellen Richmond, 92, of Grandview went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Beckley Healthcare Center following a long illness.

Born February 10, 1933 in Meadow Creek she was a daughter of the late Arthur Jakson and Rufina Myrtle Plumley Smith.

Mary was a member of Sandstone Baptist Church. She was the former owner and operator of Richmond’s Grocery Store in Meadow Creek. Mary was also a former teaching aide at Sandstone School in home economics. She enjoyed her flowers, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Billy Joe Richmond; four brothers, Clyde A. Smith, Theo Smith, Roy Smith and Forrest G. Smith; three sisters, Anna Mae Cales, Imogene Gwinn and Rufina Margaret Smith Bragg and her father and mother in law, Elmer and Nettie Richmond.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Carolyn Twohig and husband Richard and Sharon Richmond; two grandchildren, Gary Twohig and wife Brandy and Christopher Twohig and great grandchildren, Taylor and Trevor Twohig.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Jordan Legg officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Visitation will be from noon until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff and doctors at Beckley Healthcare Center for the loving care they provided Mary during her stay there.
