Larry Wayne Ward, 72, of Pipestem, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 7, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 25, 1953, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Glaspy O. and Edna “Pauline” Cooper Ward. Larry was raised in Sandstone and Pipestem, where he became a familiar face in the community.

A proud U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, Larry served his country overseas in Germany. Over the years, he became known as a “Jack of all trades,” always willing to lend a hand or share his knowledge with others. He retired from the WV Turnpike after a long and dedicated career, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and perseverance.

Larry was an avid lover of the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether it was playing a competitive game of pool or cornhole. His friendly, approachable nature made him someone who could always be counted on for a good time, and he had a knack for making people feel welcome and at ease.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two sisters, Judith “Judy” Thompson of Pipestem and Linda Sue Donovan of Tampa, FL.

He is survived by his loving partner, Brenda Farmer; his children, Timothy Ward and wife Susan of Cool Ridge, and Karen Ward of Sandstone; his brothers, Barry Ward of Charleston and Gary “Dale” Ward of Hinton; his sister, Phillis Jean Raiford of Princeton; and his three grandchildren, Sierra Ward, Damian Ward, and Tyler Johnson. Larry also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish his memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cremation services have been entrusted to Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors & Cremation Care Center.
