John Wayne Wills, 76, of True, went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Friday, May 16, 2025.
John was born on September 4, 1948, in Jonben, WV to the late Sanford T. Wills and Icie Wills (Pegram). John moved to True, WV when he was a teenager where he lived most of his life. John was a veteran and served honorably in the Army in the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning from Vietnam, John spent his career as a heavy equipment operator and foreman for the surface mines.
John loved the Lord and loved serving Him. He was saved as a young adult. John was called to preach in 1977. He served the Lord as a Childrens Church Pastor, Bus
Captain, Youth Leader, Deacon, Preacher, and most recently in his favorite ministry as the Chaplain of the Southern Regional Jail until 2018. He was a member of Rich Creek Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending and serving until his health no longer allowed. John told everyone he could about the Lord, and his greatest desire was to bring others to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, James Adkins, Benny Wills, and Keith Wills and two sons, John Mark Wills and Joshua Mark Wills.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, LaVerne Farley Wills, of True; his children, daughter Christie (Joe) Zabel of Hurricane, son John Paul Wills of True, daughter Terra (Jonathan) Goins of True, daughter Candi Stapleton of Princeton; one sister, Loretta “Sissy” Neely (Walter) of True; eleven grandchildren, AJ Zabel, Katie Sadler, Julie Zabel, Reese Wills, Chase Wills, Noah Goins, Ryleigh Goins, Gabe Stapleton, Emily Stapleton, Blake Stapleton, and Piper Stapleton; and one great-grandson, Levi Sadler; as well as several nieces and nephews and friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, paw paw, uncle, and friend.
Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 22, 2025 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor James Mattox officiating. Friends may call from noon until the time of services at the funeral parlor. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Jail Ministry, Lighthouse Baptist Church, 650 Grandview Road, Daniels, WV 25832.
The family would like to thank White Sulphur Springs Health Center for their care of John in his final chapter of life.
