Jerry VanStavern

Retired Master Sgt. Jerry Ryan VanStavern, 60, of Ballangee, passed away in his sleep Friday, July 16, 2004 at his home. Born October 19, 1943 in Summers County, he was the son of Bertie Winfrey VanStavern of Ballengee and the late Roy Frank VanStavern. Jerry was a Retired Master Sgt. from the United States Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard VanStavern. Besides his mother Jerry is survived by wife, Mary VanStavern of Big Stone Gap, VA, two sons, Johnny & Billy of Big Stone Gap VA. Three daughters, Lois & Vicky of Fort Springs, WV and Rebecca of AL, one brother, Lee VanStavern of Ballangee, three sisters Nova Rudisill of Talcott, Freda Edwards of Clifton Forge, VA and Phyllis Richmond of Talcott, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00P.M. Sunday, July 18, 2004 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton, with Rev. Sam Haught officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery at Ballengee. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors from 6 to 8 pm Saturday. Friends will serve as pallbearers.
