James E. “Jimmy” Richmond Sr., 82, of Sand Knob, Nimitz went home to be
with the Lord, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, following a long illness.
Born November 7, 1942, in Hinton, he was a son of the late Carl Jr. and
Lavattia Susan Richmond Lilly.
Jimmy was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church. He enjoyed his lifetime
occupation of being an auto mechanic. During his career, he worked several
years for Grady Whitlock Ford where he made many lifelong friends. He was also
the owner and operator of both the Exxon Service station in Nimitz and Jim’s
Body Shop. Jimmy was well-known in the area for always doing excellent
painting and body work. He was a former Fire Chief at Jumping Branch Nimitz
Volunteer Fire Department with many years of service. He especially enjoyed
preparing for the annual ramp dinners.
Jimmy enjoyed farming. Many long hours were spent in the hayfield and
he never seemed to tire of the hard work in the hot sun. He also enjoyed
gardening and passed tidbits of his knowledge to his granddaughters. Lillian and
Hannah brought so much joy to their Papaw. He was attentive to any and every
story they wanted to tell and was interested in each exciting thing they wanted to
show him.
Jimmy was preceded in death by one son, James E. “Butch” Richmond Jr.
and a cousin, Beth White.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Venita Mae
Lilly Richmond, one son, David Carl Richmond and wife Carolyn, and two very
special granddaughters, Lillian Beth Richmond and Hannah Grace Richmond. He
is also survived by his cousins, Steve White, Tyler White and wife Candy,
daughter Kenzie, and Tristan White.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
