James Robert “Robby” Lasley 69 of Nimitz affectionately known as “Grandpa” during his military service went home to be with the Lord Saturday June 17, 2023 at Hubbard Hospice House following a long illness.
Born September 8, 1953 at Artie he was the son of the James Everett and Beulah Mae Treadway Lasley. James served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and the Iraq War. He was a Staff Sergeant and during his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War of Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, and the Air Assault Badge. He was a truck driver who also loved coaching Babe Ruth Baseball in Shady Spring. James enjoyed classic war movies, puzzles, reading books and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by three sisters, Penny Estep, Janet Runion and Sandra Dingus; one brother, Kevin Lasley and his son in law, Sgt Brian Karim.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Jessie Louise “Susie” Hodge Lasley; four children, Amanda Seigler and husband Randy of Princeton, James Aaron Lasley and wife Kay of Hinton, Rachel Cahoon and husband Dan of Ballard and Kelli Chellis and husband James of Georgia; eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one brother, Doug Lasley and wife Sandy of Oklahoma; two sisters, Angie Williams of Beckley and Cheryl Wall of Virginia.
At Robby’s request there will be no services and cremation has been entrusted to the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors and Cremation Care.
