Howard Woodrum

Howard P. Woodrum, 88, of Nimitz died September 23, 2005 at his home following a long illness. Born January 31, 1917 at Jumping Branch, he was a son of the late James C. and Lettie Townsley Woodrum. He attended Summers Co. Schools, and was a graduate of Beckley College (now Mountain State University) and Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston). Mr. Woodrum owned and operated Woodrumâ??s Store at Nimitz for several years. He was later employed by the State of West Virginia Department of Human Services as a Field Representative from which he retired in 1982. He was a member of Bellepoint Baptist Church of Hinton, where he served as chairman of the deacon board, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, choir director, chairman of the pulpit committee, chairman of the mission board and building and grounds committee. He was a member of Gideons International, Beckley Camp, where he served as president and active member. He also served as a volunteer at the Summers Co. Appalachian Regional Continuous Care Unit in Hinton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, James H. Huff and a step-grandson Kevin Kirk.His survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margaret Bird Woodrum, a daughter, Sara Lynn Massi and her husband Joseph of Charlotte, NC, another daughter, Julie Kirk and her husband William of Charleston, WV, six grandchildren, Gina Fingleman and her husband Gary, Stephen Massi and his wife Stacy, Anita Edwards and her husband Aaron, all of Houston, TX, and Eva Hines and her husband Alan of Charlotte, NC, Dawn Surbaugh of Nimitz, WV, and Jonathan Harvey of Charleston, WV. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren and a half-brother, Arthur Dobbins of Pensacola, FL.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday September 26, 2005 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. Carlyle Bloome and Earl Whitener officiating. Burial will follow at the Highlawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill. Friends may call from 6-9 P.M. on Sunday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors. John Harvey, John Surbaugh, Phillip Maddy, Butch Woodrum, Jonathan Harvey, and Richard Cook will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beckley Gideons in care of A.K. Walker, 517 Orchard Ave., Beckley, WV 25801 or the Raleigh Co. Hospice. Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton
