Helen V. Newsome, affectionately known as Ginger, 83, of Shady Spring went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 24, 2019 peacefully at home.
Born June 24, 1935 in South Charleston, WV she was a daughter of the late Helen V. Leishman.
Ginger was a homemaker and member of Bluestone Baptist Church where she served as a teacher of the Wednesday night Jr. Bible Class, worked with the children at Vacation Bible School, helped manage the kitchen and provided a floral donation for several years. Ginger was a member of Beta Signa Phi which serves communities through charitable works. She was a parent volunteer at Jumping Branch Elementary, a member of the Jumping Branch - Nimitz CEO's, owner and operator of Sitting Pretty Upholstery. Ginger was a faithful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother to her family as well as her church family.
Besides her mother she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lillian Brigode.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 65 years, Richard T. Newsome of Shady Spring; three children, Richard D. Newsome and wife Mary of Jumping Branch, Robert T. Newsome and wife Brenda of Shady Spring and Regina Newsome of Beckley; three grandchildren, Richard B. Newsome, Olivia D. Rose and husband Jamie and Rebecca L. Newsome; one great grandson, Easton James Rose; one brother, John C. Leishman of Frederick, MD and three nephews, Jerry Leishman and wife Deina, Gary Leishman and wife Barbara and Terry Leishman and wife Nancy.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Wednesday February 27, 2019 at Bluestone Baptist Church with Pastors Bill Fox and Josh Winkler officiating. Burial will follow at the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Tuesday February 26, 2019 at the Bluestone Baptist Church.
Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
