Gene Wilfong, 75, of Meadow Creek went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness.
Born January 23, 1951, in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Elmer E. and Gwendolyn Marie Wilfong Patton. A Veteran of the United States Army having served his country during the Vietnam War where he was wounded in combat and was awarded the purple heart. Gene retired from the National Park Service where he worked in the maintenance dept., and he was a member of the Meadow Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, loved working in his garage, spending time with his grandchildren and helping anyone who needed it.
Preceded in death by one daughter, Carrie Wilfong; son-in-law, Scott J. Richmond and his mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Carol Kelley.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Dreama Kelley Wilfong; one daughter, Wendy Carol Richmond; two grandchildren, Harmony Grace Richmond and Cadence “Cadie” Marie Richmond; one sister, Lisa Ann Woods; two brothers, Gary Lee Patton and Danny Earl Patton; two close friends, Earl Roberts and Garry Wheeler and several nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters- in- law.
A private family graveside service was held 11:00 am Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at the Meadow Creek Community Cemetery with Pastor Harry Allen officiating.
Family and church members served as pallbearers.
