Gary Neal Belue, 78, of Jumping Branch, WV, passed away suddenly Monday April 14, 2025, while out enjoying his daily morning walk with his dog. Born on May 4, 1946, in Florence, AL, Gary was the son of Elmer H. Belue and Beulah B. (Haddock) Belue. After the family relocated to WV, he graduated from Ravenswood High School in 1964. He first attended Potomac State University and then transferred and graduated in 1969 from West Virginia University earning his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.
While his 42-year career as a registered pharmacist (RPh) began in Youngstown, OH with Super-X, Gary spent 36 years with Rite Aid, managing and staffing locations across the greater part of southern WV. He was a well-respected member of the communities he served, and well-liked by his customers for his friendly, easy-going nature and his uncompromising high level of compassion and care. Gary was best known by his regular customers, first in Beckley and later in Hinton, until his retirement in 2011.
Gary loved spending the winters skiing at Winterplace and Snowshoe, when he was not working. While he also enjoyed traveling, dining, and shopping, he equally enjoyed the simplicity of day-to-day living. When he wasn’t busy tinkering and working on things around the house, he enjoyed spending the rest of his free time reading and cooking. He cherished visits and phone calls with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He was a big lover of animals and had adopted many dogs and cats over the years.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Michelle Renee Belue and a sister-in-law, Colleen E. Belue.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of over 24 years, Patricia (Patty) Atkins Belue; three sons (with Sharon Tisdale Belue): Jason A. Belue and wife Susan of Durham, NC; Nathan S. Belue, RPh, and wife Allison of Burlington, NC; Kevin S. Belue of Burlington, NC; five grandchildren: Kristen Michelle, Alex Michael, Gary Nicholas, Olivia Grey, and Kyle Austin; brother Ronnie G. Belue and sister Diane Ray of Ravenswood, WV and brother Douglas H. Belue and wife Cindy of Knoxville, TN; one brother-in-law: Michael Atkins and husband Jimmy Craig; and his beloved and faithful pets, his dog Shallow and cat, Miss Kitty.
