Freda VanStavern Edwards, age 86, of 4109 Sharon Lane, Clifton Forge, Virginia died on Monday, September 1, 2025, at her residence. Freda was born on December 15, 1938, in Wayside, West Virginia to the late Roy and Bertie Winfrey VanStavern. She was a homemaker throughout her life, and a retired seamstress. She will also be remembered for working in the Leggett and the Hair and Fashion Studio & Mending Shop. Freda was a former member of the Walton Memorial United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, listening to the music of Willie Nelson and Marty Stewart, and was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Dallas Cowboys. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Freda was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Vernon Edwards; two brothers, Richard VanStavern and Jerry VanStavern; a son-in-law, Dennis Fury; and her best buddy “Duchess”.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam Warren (Richard) of Covington and Nancy Fury of Clifton Forge; a son, Kent Edwards (Eva) of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Nova Rudisill and Phyllis Richmond, both of Talcott, WV; a brother, Lee VanStavern of Ballengee, WV; five grandchildren, Schuyler Fury (Larry Hipes), John Fury (Sarah), Jessica Harmon (Daniel), Ethan Berry (Elizabeth), and Ty Edwards (Katie); a step granddaughter, Kelli Miller; eleven great grandchildren, Bella DiBenedetto, Lane Fury, Denver Fury; Destiny Caldwell (Mark Bush), Kerrigan Edwards, Tiernan Edwards, Hendricks Edwards, Ryker Edwards, Winnie Harmon, and Oliver Berry: great great grandchildren, Waylon Bush, Chesney Bush, and Trinity Bush; and a host of nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday evening, September 2, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 3, at 1:00 PM at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton with Pastor Mike Tabor officiating with interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Ballengee. The family will also visit with friends on Wednesday afternoon from 12:00 PM until the time of service at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlor. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Sharon Fire Department, 3910 Longdale Furnace Rd, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to Oak Grove Methodist Church, 628 Ballengee Rd, Talcott, WV 24981.
