Ellen Neely

August 11, 1941 — May 20, 2016

On this day of May 20, 2016, the Lord took Ellen Carol Neely gently in his loving arms to her home in Heaven to be with her husband, James M. Neely, whom she greatly loved and missed.
Ellen was a devoted Christian, and Military wife and mother who throughout the family travels made each and every house a loving home. She was a fun loving Grandmother, devoted sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.
As a member of Painters Chapel United Methodist Church she sang in the choir and participated in home visits for those unable to attend church. A piece of her heart remained at James Chapel United Methodist Church where her family worshipped throughout the years.
Before retiring as the Pipestem State Park Headquarters Secretary, she was instrumental in bringing the Annual Antique Car Show and Square Dancing to the park. Ellen and James not only helped orchestrate the events but they were active participants.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James M. Neely, her parents and three brothers, two sisters and a grandson.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Tickle Hudson, her daughter, Lita C. Light, and husband David Light, their son Ryan Light and his fiance, Tamara Bragg. She is also survived by her son, James R. Neely, wife Diana and their children, Alexis Vanderwerken, husband Cameron, and their son Caleb, and Elaina and Mason Neely.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the James Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor David Damewood officiating. Burial will follow in the Neely Family Cemetery at Pipestem. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Monday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
