Edna Irene Moten Richmond

Edna Irene Moten Richmond, 85, passed away at home Sunday, February 4, 2024 suddenly of complications of a chronic illness.

Born October 10, 1938, in Jumping Branch, she was a daughter of the late William Samuel and Vila Lilly Moten.

Edna was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Nimitz however, she occasionally attended Stanaford Baptist Church in Beckley with her youngest sister Margie and family.

Edna had worked from home in her earlier years as a seamstress, which was the work she loved most of all.  She was also employed with several retailers over the years, two of which she was the store manager.

She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and talking on the phone with family and friends.  She was a very strong willed, independent lady.   Edna believed there was nothing she couldn’t do if she set her mind to it from painting houses to cars, autobody repairs and from wood construction to electrical wiring and plumbing.  Edna enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and crocheting of which she would make afghans and house shoes to give away.  She always thought of others more than herself.   Edna will be missed but not forgotten.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William “Billy” Richmond; one brother, Edgar Lee Moten; one sister, Mildred Moten Lilly; one nephew, Jeffrey Moten and one niece, Becky Cooper.

Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Robert Richmond Jr. of Stanston, VA; one daughter, Sandra Richmond Bolling (Michael) of Nimitz; eight  grandchildren, Mathew Richmond, Marilyn O’Neill, Willey Nutter, Jennifer Neely, Logan Richmond, Riley Richmond, Amanda Ballengee and Zachary Bolling ; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, David Moten (Rose) of Jumping Branch: two sisters, Lorene Moten Lilly of PA and Margaret Moten Hicks (Clarence) of Beckley; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Elva Jean of Beckley and Robert Richmond Sr. of Hopewell, VA.

Graveside service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Moten Family Cemetery at Nimitz with Pastor Billy Ballengee and Bryan Byrd officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. at Grace Baptist Church in Nimitz.  David, Bobby, Michael, Logan, Zachary and Samuel will serve as pallbearers.
