Edith Odell Weatherford, lovingly known to family and friends as “Edie,” passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at 2:38 a.m., with her daughter and granddaughter, Rebecca, by her side. As the night grew quiet, she gently stepped through Heaven’s gates and into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—finally going home to the place her faithful heart had long prepared for her. After a richly lived life in devotion to her family and steadfast in her faith, she was welcomed by her loved ones that had gone into eternal peace and everlasting light.
Edith was born on May 14, 1933, in Pipestem, West Virginia, to James “Buster” Clarence Lilly and Margie Odell Lilly. She was the first of twelve children, raised in a three-bedroom house perched on top of a mountain in West Virginia. From those humble beginnings, she developed the strength, resilience, and deep devotion to family that would define her life.
She graduated from Hinton High School, where she met the love of her life, James Patrick Weatherford. The two rode the school bus together as teenagers, never knowing that those simple rides would lead to a lifelong love story. On September 24, 1951, they were united in marriage, beginning a devoted partnership that would span fifty-seven wonderful years. Edith converted from her Primitive Baptist upbringing to Catholicism to marry James, a testament to her deep commitment both to her faith and to the man with whom she would share her life. Together they built a beautiful home and were blessed with two children.
They began their married life in West Virginia while Patrick attended electrician school, building their future side by side. Afterward, they moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where Edith worked for Whitehead Metal Company. The family later relocated to Florida prior to the birth of their son. In Florida, Edith worked as an office manager for Policicchio Groves, where she was known not only for her dedication and strong work ethic, but also for her willingness to help wherever she was needed. Over time, she became an honorary member of the Policicchio family.
Family was the center of Edith’s world. She adored her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was famous for her trips to Disney World—so much so that family members joked she may have set a record for the number of visits during Disney’s first year. She delighted in taking her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews on long road trips across state lines, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Edith had a green thumb and could make anything grow. Whether tending plants or nurturing people, she brought life and care to everything she touched. She also had a well-known sweet tooth. Though she developed diabetes in her fifties, she would sneak a small piece of every dessert available—a tradition affectionately known in the family as the “Edith Special.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margie Lilly; her beloved husband of 57 years, James Patrick Weatherford; her son, James Christopher Weatherford; and her siblings Evelyn Marie Currence, Mona Fay Hammel, Larry Dean Lilly, Janet Gail Johnson, Garnette Louise Lilly, and Gary Wayne Lilly.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Teresa Hall (Michael); her grandchildren, Michael Hall II (Melissa), Reba Weatherford, Traves Weatherford, and Rebecca McFarland (Daniel); and her eight great-grandchildren, Carson, Cade, and Cale Weatherford; Michael and Mason Hall; and Daniel, Lilly, and Hazel McFarland.
She is also survived by her siblings, Elizabeth Lyons (Jerry), James Damon Lilly (Janet), Darrell Lee Lilly (Etta Sue), Samantha Jewel Lilly (Thomas), and Freda Patricia Grossman (Thomas), along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
Edith loved her family dearly and lived her life in devotion to them. Her faith remained strong throughout her life, guiding her through both joys and sorrows. She lived a good, long life surrounded by wonderful family and friends, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
