Dorothy Sweeney

Dorothy Evelyn Sweeney, 89, of Jumping Branch passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness.

Born September 21, 1931 at Hinton she was the daughter of the late Robert James and Evelyn Mann James Shull.  A homemaker she enjoyed reading, loving on her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Preceded in death by her husband, William Leroy Sweeney and two sisters, Patricia James Richmond and Roberta James Reed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Lonnie Sweeney and wife Jeanette of Akron, OH; daughter, Evelyn Williams and husband Dennis of Jumping Branch; brother-in-law, Donnie Reed of Hinton; grandchildren, Jennifer Sweeney and husband Brian Weese, Janet Estafen and husband Tom, Jane Gunter and husband Ricky, Evan Williams, Eric Williams and Greggory Williams; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday July 16, 2021 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Bill Fox officiating.  Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton.  Friends may call from noon until time of services on Friday at the funeral parlors.

Greggory, Eric, and Evan Williams, Patrick Reed, Tom Estafen and Denvil Williams will serve as pallbearers.
