Deloris Jane Ward Young

     Deloris Jane Ward Young, 81, passed away peacefully into her heavenly father’s mansion, surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.

      Born July 19, 1942 at Sandstone she was a daughter of the late Shan and Stella Faye Ward.

     Deloris was of the Baptist faith.  She was a 1959 Graduate of Hinton High School. Deloris, affectionately known as DI, was a former employee of her mother’s well renowned Temple Sweet Shop for many years. Following the closing she worked at Kroger in Hinton where her customers loved her. Customers would stand in her aisle over others where she greeted them with her welcoming smile because they knew she was a trustworthy and knowledgeable employee. DI worked there until retirement. Her time was filled with the things she enjoyed such as fishing, hunting, going to football games and spending countless hours on family traditions, entertaining, cooking, baking, sewing, making clothes and quilting. When she was healthier, she loved going to the movies, roller skating and just enjoyed life. DI liked to travel and was always ready to go but she was content putting a puzzle together or watching The Young & The Restless. Heaven gained an angel, but she will be sadly missed by her family who she lived for.

      She was preceded in death by a son, Mark David Long; an infant sister, Virginia Carol Ward; a brother, Junior Ward; three sisters, Ruth Wright, Mary Farmer and Helen Rule.

      Those left to cherish her memory, include her daughter, Diana Miller and husband Robert “Bob” of Fayette, AL; one granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Miller; two grandsons, Mark Long and wife Jessica of Beckley, Seth Long and wife Amanda of Flat Top, five great grandsons; four great granddaughters; one brother, Charlie Ward of Hinton and companion, Christine Gill; four sisters, Bea Taylor and husband Jim of Beckley, Jewell Whittaker, Millie Nelson and husband Jim of Ballengee and Carolyn Foster of Jumping Branch and several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Pete Dunford officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton.  Friends may call from noon until time of services at the funeral home on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Mark Long, Seth Long, Xander Long, Jim Nelson Jr., Tony Scott and Hunter Scott.
