Danny Ray Meador, 76, of Pipestem, West Virginia, went to be with his Lord Jesus on June 1, 2026.
Born on April 2, 1950, Danny lived a life dedicated to community and family. He was a proud graduate of West Virginia State University. During his high school years, he was a standout athlete, serving as the co-captain of the 1968/1969 Hinton High School football team, leading them to a state championship in 1968, and earning first-team Coalfield Conference and All-State honors. He later worked as a correctional officer and counselor at the Alderson Federal Prison, from which he retired.
Danny was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Hinton, WV. He deeply loved visiting his family, sharing fond memories of his football days, and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. In the final years of his life, he was blessed with a very special best friend, Eddie Via of Lerona, WV. Eddie was a kind, dear friend, and the two spent cherished time together talking and sharing meals at Pipestem Park.
He was the son of the late Samuel Meador, Sr. and Francis May Petrey Meador. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Randell Dewey Meador and Roger Meador, and two sisters, Gloria Dean “Dee Dee” Meador and Catherine Carol Keaton.
His legacy lives on through his survivors, including his son, Marshall Meador of Bluefield, WV; his daughter, Robin Hatcher and her husband, Chuck, of Flat Top, WV; and his five cherished grandchildren: Mekia Crawford, Myrecal Meador and her husband Coleman Meador, Haylee Hatcher, Madeline Hatcher, and Sloan Hatcher.
He is also survived by his siblings: his sister, Barbara Ann Begil of Proctorville, OH; and his brothers, Samuel Allen Meador, Jr. of Pipestem, WV; Larry Dale Meador and his wife, Yvonne, of Winston Salem, NC; and Gary Wayne Meador and his wife, Terri, of Nimitz, WV. Several loving nieces and nephews also survive.
Following his wishes, Danny will be cremated, and his remains will be laid to rest at the Ellison Cemetery in Pipestem, WV.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 7th at 4:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Hinton, West Virginia, located on Temple Street near 7th Avenue. His dear friend Eddie Via will conduct the service. A dinner for family and friends will follow immediately afterward. All who knew and loved Danny are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
