Christum Flanoy and Juanita Ray Neely Gore
Christum "Chris" Flanoy Gore was born on December 25, 1919 in Bertha WV and died on January 26, 2016. Juanita Ray Neely Gore was born on May 6, 1922 in Hinton, WV and died on July 1, 2017. Both were residents of the Summers Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Hilldale, WV at the time of their death.
Christum was preceded in death by his parents John William and Ethel Barton Gore; brothers, Jason, John, Bob, James, Harry, Frank, Ray, and Lindy; sister, Ruth Ames; and one great grandson, Carson Michael Gore.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Elder Arvel and Mary Neely; brother, Arvel "Benny" Neely; and sister, Izetta Wingate; one great grandson, Carson Michael Gore.
They are both survived by Christum's sister, Helen Bennett; their three children, Robert Gore, of Texarkana, Texas, Sandra and husband Ron Cook of Weaverville NC, and Michael Gore and wife Sonya Faye Murrell of Talcott, WV;Grandchildren,Summer and Robert Teague, Salan Vergiels, Robert CJ Gore, Christi and husband Steven Broadhead, Ronny Cook, Michael and wife Melanie Gore, and Thomas Gore;Great Grandchildren, Trey Vergiels, Zack Vergiels, Spirit Foster, Skyler Foster, Dane Broadhead, Gage Broadhead, Michael Twitchen, Addyson Gore and Grayson Michael Gore;Great Great Grandchild, Scarlett Wilkins.
Chris, during his childhood, was very active in Summers County 4-H and became a Summers County All-Star. He was named Governors Medal for Outstanding 4-H Club boy, Chief of the Mingo Tribe at Summers County 4-H Camp. He was grateful to Tubby Boggs, WVU 4-H Club Director for State of WV, Bonnie Peck, Director of 4-H work in Summers County, Art Lough, Director of WVU Extension Service, Summers County and Raymond Smith who were responsible ,thru scholarships, for Chris to attend State 4-H Camp at Jackson's Mill.
Chris and Juanita both attended Concord University where they met and later married on February 28, 1942. Chris graduated in 1942 with Degree in Physical Education, Biological and General Sciences. Chris joined the Navy and served his country in WWII. After returning from the War, Chris was employed by C & P Telephone Company which caused them to live in several places but considered Fairmont to be their home. The couple was very active in their community. Chris was a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Hinton, Rotary Club President and very active in the Boy Scouts. He served as Commissary officer, Boy Scout National Jamboree, Valley Forge, PA, 1957, Cooking officer, Boy Scout National Jamboree, Valley Forge, PA, 1957, Assistant scoutmaster, World Jamboree, Farragut State Park, Idaho, 1967 and Scout Master Boy Scout Troop 101, Fairmont, WV. He was awarded the District Progress Award, Award of Special Merit, Regional Chairman's Award, and the Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award. The Kentucky Colonels made Chris a member due to his tremendous work in the community.
Juanita served as Den Mother of the Cub Scouts; Girl Scout Leader; Youth Advisor for the Baptist Youth Fellowship as well as Kindergarten Teacher; In the Women's Association of her church she has served as circle leader, circle co-ordinator and Love Gift Chairman; She served as the Youth Chairman of the Christian Board of Education and Vice-President of the Women's Association.
Chris and Juanita previously owned and operated Bluestone Marina, Momma G's and Grandma G's restaurants.
The family would like to thank Judy Conner, Kathy Adkins and Feona Gore for being wonderful caregivers to Juanita, Dr. Day and finally the Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Staff for the care given to Chris and Juanita as they would their own family.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 22, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Johnson Memorial Methodist Church in Alderson, WV with Reverend Rick Duncan officiating.
