Calvin E. Martin

Calvin E. Martin, 71, of Forest Hill went home to be with the Lord Sunday May 11, 2025 at Raleigh General Hospital following a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 20, 1953 in Oceana he was a son of the late Kenneth E. and Gladys Thompson Martin. Calvin was a member of the Roles Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Youth Teacher and as Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years. He worked for 15 years at the Lynchburg Foundry, 15 years as a construction worker for Local #453 and he finished his career with 21 ½ years of service for Volvo Truck in Dublin, VA. Calvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and studying his Sunday School lesson in his tree stand. He loved helping others as long as his health permitted. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and his entire family including his church family dearly. If you knew Calvin, you knew he was a jokester at heart and had selective hearing because he needed hearing aids and refused to get them.

Preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Martin and his father and mother-in-law, Buddy and Ida Mae Bower.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Debra L. Bower Martin; one daughter, Angie Withrow and husband Jr.; one son, Michael E. Martin and wife Keli; three grandchildren, Allison and husband Austin, Matthew and Luke; one great grandson, Hudson; step grandchildren, Tad and wife Amanda and Cassie and husband Bryan; four step great grandchildren, Brayson, Lane, Miranda and Reed; four brothers, Robert Martin and wife Ann, James Martin and wife Edwina, Ralph Martin and Jack Martin and wife Karen; special friends, Warren Mann and Robbie Merritt; very special friends, The Canterbury Family and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday May 14, 2025 at the Roles Chapel Baptist Church with Pastors Butch Honaker and Josh Cox officiating. Burial will follow the Roles Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until service time on Wednesday at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
