Bessie Burgess
June 8, 1921 — September 23, 2019
The Lord called our precious mother, Bessie Edna Johnson Burgess, home on Monday, September 23, 2019. She passed away at her home with her loving family at her bedside. She was 98 years old and very proud of it.
Formerly of Blair, Hinton and now Lerona she was a daughter of the late James Daniel and Dorotha Miller Johnson of Turtle Creek.
Bessie loved to fish and needless to say she "skunked" all who fished with her. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, most of her children and grandchildren have one to remember her by. Most of all she loved singing and going to church. She was the oldest member of Martha's Chapel and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Bessie was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Rexford Olie Burgess; a son, Bobbie Lee Burgess and a daughter, Katie Mae McLaughlin.
Those left to cherish her memory include six children, Ceceilia Marie Curry of Lerona, Rexford Burgess Jr. of Lerona, Nell Dean Dumont of Peterstown, Angelia Etta Allen of Lerona, David Edward Burgess of Hinton and Dexter Irving Burgess (Robin) of Daniels; over one hundred grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Pat Mick officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like thank Robin Burgess, Debbie Burgess and Hospice Compassus for the loving care that was provided to Bessie.
