Jerry Cales
July 28, 1945 — January 26, 2019
On January 26th, 2019 at 3:10 AM, Jerry got his heart's desire and left this world of pain and went home. He had fought a long battle with illness. Born July 28, 1945 at Hix, he was the son of the late Preston Allen and Effie Richmond Cales and stepfather, Hobert Williams.
Jerry had worked in the printing business several years, before becoming disabled. He enjoyed traveling and went out with his son, Jeff on several trips while he worked driving for MS Carriers. He also loved fast cars. He had a 1969 Road Runner, referred to as his Road Chicken, which he loved to drag race. One of his favorite past-times, was to argue with his youngest granddaughter Kinsley Cales. He was faithful to his church, Tempa Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and treasure for years as long as his health allowed him. His pride in life was his family, his children, grandchildren, and great grandson.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Arlie Cales, David Cales, Alton Cales, and Alfred Cales, four sisters Mary Wickline, Elinore Cales, Janice Cooper, and Sadie Williams, and two baby angels. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Drema Woods Cales, two sons Jeffrey (Amy) Cales of Clayton, WV, Gregory (Lindsay) Cales of Tempa, WV, one daughter Cheryl (Kerry) Boone of Tempa, WV, seven grandchildren, Brett (Kristyn) Cales, Sheila Boone, Davonna (Matt) Tabor, Johnathan (Kelly) Cales, Hope (Craig) Gillespie, Jace Cales, and Kinsley Cales, one great grandson, Clayton Cales, one sister, Genetta Humphries, one brother, Roger Cales and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 31st, 2019 at Tempa Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Reed officiating. His body will be at church one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at the Williams-Richmond Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Williams, Delmas Williams, Ervin Richmond, David Jones, Robbie Buckland, and Garrison Boone. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-8 on Wednesday, January 30th.
