Muriel Wickline

October 5, 1924 — May 2, 2017

Muriel E. Wickline, 92, of Forest Hill (Buck), WV passed away peacefully at home Tuesday May 2nd, 2017. He was blessed to have been home on the farm he cherished and worked for over 50 years. He was born October 5, 1924 in Beckley, WV to the late H.L. and Sylvia Hanson-Wickline. He graduated from Trap Hill High School. Mr. Wickline then proudly served his country during WWII. Upon his return home he spent many years working as a WV coal miner. He suffered a near fatal injury in 1971 with a lengthy recovery and a lifelong disability. It was after this that he moved full time to the farm in Summers County and became a successful farmer despite his injuries.
Mr. Wickline was a long time member of the Little Wolf Creek Baptist Church where he discovered his love of song, and what he called his only talent of leading music. He served his church as treasurer, song leader, and choir director. He was also known for his dependability when things in the community needed tending. He was cherished and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma A. "Neta" McGraw Wickline. They were childhood sweethearts who lost touch later reconnecting and were married for 50 years. Also preceding him in death was an infant son: Danny Ray, a step-son: Jimmy Grimmett, two sisters: Madeline Hinkle, and Pearl Cooper, and a brother: Dean Wickline.
Left to cherish his memory include four sons: Jerry and wife Ruth, David and wife Anita, Danny and fiancée Suzie, and Rocky and wife Tara, two brothers: Glenn and wife Zella, and Donald and wife Rose, a sister-in-law: Ruby McGraw, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his church family and friends.
He was laid to rest on May 3rd at the family cemetery with a view of his church and home, the two things he loved the most. A memorial service will be held Sunday May 7th at 3pm at the Little Wolf Creek Baptist Church with his son David Wickline officiating and Mr. Wickline's longtime friends and Pastors Don Hannah, and Pete Cook assisting.
In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802.
