Joyce Irene Ramsey, 87, of Torch, Ohio went home to her heavenly Father, husband, and son on Monday, November 10, 2014.
She was born in Forest Hill, West Virginia to Frank and Lettie Beasley on March 25, 1927. She was the seventh of eleven children. During World War II, she and her sister, Jewel, worked in a gun powder plant in Virginia to help the war effort. On July 3, 1946, she married the love of her life, Jeff Ramsey. They were together for 67 years of marriage until Jeff passed away in March of this year.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed helping her family and friends in whatever endeavor she could. This willingness to help others is carried over into her volunteer services for the Hospice organization in the Parkersburg, West Virginia area. She had over 2,500 hours of volunteer service for Hospice. She worked in the office, made dove ornaments for the Christmas Tree of Light, and assisted Hospice patients and their families in their time of need.
Joyce was a member of the Torch Baptist Church, Torch, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jeff; son, Larry; and siblings, Elosie, Ida Mae, Pat, Jewel, Hazel, Bill, Emery, and Frank, Jr.
She is survived by her son Garry (Teresa) of Louisville, KY; three grandsons, Eric (Traci) of Phoenix, AZ, Todd (Christie) of Louisville, KY, and Nathan of Greensboro, NC; four great grandchildren, Brooke and Madison Ramsey of Louisville, KY and Jackson and Lindsi Ramsey of Phoenix, AZ; two daughter-in-laws, Sarita Lynch (David) of Louisville, KY, and Beverly Ramsey of Fayetteville, NC; two sisters, Ruth Barber of Greensboro, NC and JoAnn Wood, Manassas, VA; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Roles Chapel Baptist Church at Forest Hill, West Virginia with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Roles Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roles Chapel Cemetery Fund, HC 65 Box 78, Forest Hill, WV 24935.
