Joseph E. Gunter, 77, of Riverside Rest formerly of Matheny went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 21, 2014 at his residence following a long illness.
Born May 4, 1937 at Pineville he was the son of the late Dewey and Annie Halsey Gunter. Joseph was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend who was very much loved by his family and friends. He loved the Lord, spending time with family and friends, as well as fishing.
Preceding him in death include a son, Joseph E. Gunter Jr.; two infant daughters; two brothers, Neal Gunter and Charles (Sonny) Gunter; three sisters, Eloise Stewart, Sharon Lane and Bonnie Wagner.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Nettie Gunter; one daughter, Karen Gunter and companion Billy Joe Burns; two sons, David Gunter and wife Mary and Ricky Gunter and companion, Melinda Martin; four sisters, Edith Stewart of Pence Springs, Mary Gurley of Southern Pines, NC, Cora McMillion and husband Avary of Riverside Rest and Wanda Minton and husband Walter of Thomson, IL; two brothers, James Gunter of Belton, TX and George (David) Gunter of Peterstown; nine grandchildren, Anita Richmond and husband Jeffery, David Gunter and wife Tasha, Roscoe Gunter and wife Crystal, Josh Graham, Jessica Reed and husband Jack, Tamera Waddell and husband James, Tiffany Hall and husband David, Regina Smith and Heather Richmond; twenty four great grandchildren and one great grandchild, Jonetta to be born July 30, 2014; very special friends, Bill Lightner, Silas Brown, Perry Utterback, Tommy Crowe, Brother Bob Smallwood and a special cousin, Harold and Brenda Halsey.
A celebration of life will be 1:00 PM Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors with Brother Bob Smallwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Stewart-Gunter Crossover Trails Cemetery at Clayton. Friends may call from 6-9 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the funeral parlors. Pallbearers will be T.C. Freeman, Larry (Squeaky) Walton, Jack Reed, David Hall, Kevin Starcher and Jamie Crow.
